At Aspen Healthcare, we have 18 theatres with state-of-the-art equipment. Our theatres were the first in the UK to be accredited by the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP). This is the recognised authority on theatre standards. We are always looking for theatre practitioners who can deliver exceptional patient care.
There are three main types of roles in our operating theatres:
- Anaesthetic practitioners: As an anaesthetic practitioner, you support our patients before they have surgery. You prepare the specialist equipment, instruments and emergency drugs for operations involving an anaesthetic. You also assist the anaesthetist to monitor patients’ condition throughout the procedure.
- Scrub practitioners: As a scrub practitioner, you ensure that all our theatre equipment is handled correctly and maintained in safe working order. You check and prepare equipment for operations, and give the surgeon the correct surgical instruments. You also carry out mandatory surgical checks and keep records of all swab, instrument and needle counts.
- Recovery practitioners: As a recovery practitioner, you prepare equipment and drugs to care for our patients safely straight after an operation. You monitor patients’ condition and give them appropriate treatment until they have recovered. This involves managing any pain, discomfort or complications. You then assess patients before they return to the ward and arrange a detailed handover of care. You can watch a short video here on the role of a theatre practitioner
If you are a registered nurse or operating department practitioner, why not consider joining our theatre team? At our eight hospitals and clinics across the UK, we cover most medical specialities. You will support consultants and anaesthetists in a wide range of surgical procedures.
We want to recruit theatre practitioners who have strong communication skills and work well in a team. You will liaise with many different colleagues, including healthcare assistants, ward staff, theatre porters and members of the decontamination department. It is important to remain calm under pressure and react quickly to situations in a fast-paced environment.
You are expected to maintain our outstanding patient safety record and comply with strict measures to prevent infection. When patients are at their most vulnerable during an operation, you will strive to achieve high quality, safe and compassionate care.
What we offer
At Aspen Healthcare, we value theatre practitioners as key members of our clinical team. We can offer you a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.
You will complete core training on infection prevention and control and coronavirus awareness. We run workshops on many other topics that are relevant to your role, such as critical care and advanced life support.
There are opportunities to take further qualifications and progress into other roles, such as theatre managers or specialist clinical positions.
